The case for modest attire has one huge flaw: the pros far outweigh the cons. The Catacombs is simply going too far in suggesting a move back to the Puritans.
With the professors reading PowerPoint presentations that they’ve already printed up and handed out, we need something to look at in class. If the guys and gals cover up their most interesting attributes, we’re stuck looking out the window, playing with our phones or even paying attention to the slides. Yeesh.
Americans have the freedom to call attention to themselves by wearing as little as possible. Good luck watching TV or reading magazines if you’re trying to avoid seeing lots of flesh! Who is going to tell somebody to cover-up, even if the muffin-tops or armpit hair stick out as far as the next seat? The professor would get fired for even bringing it up.
The students simply don’t care because they’re the ones doing it. Of course, if they knew who was leering at them, these bared souls might think twice about letting it all hang out. But let’s not go there, it’s just too scary.
In conclusion, remember how great it is when the warm weather comes back every April? After months of seeing rooms full of people dressed as lumberjacks, we break out the tank-tops and shorts. Life is good. The Catacombs should be able to find more pressing issues than cans, racks, packages and bods.
